Northern Ireland is a post-conflict society, filled with tourists and immigrants from all over the world. Old wars conducted by the Irish Republic and Protestant militias have been transformed. The peace process that is now being carried out by community activists, many of whom, have paramilitary backgrounds. Because of this, building bridges between once sworn enemies who are now considered equal partners is a difficult process. Are they ready for challenges of the 21st century?
In addition to this, a number of programs have been introduced to change the face of the poorest and the most underprivileged areas. However, this part of the united Europe still struggles with unsolved post-conflict tensions. Northern Ireland is still trying to define its identity. Are they Irish, British or Northern Irish. To date, there has been no resolution to an issue where identity is still very important.
